Hair loss, also known as alopecia, can occur in men and women for several reasons. Losing one's hair can really be a problem because everyone wants a healthy hair. But if you rather choose to do home hair remedies, then you must prepare yourself to change your diet as well.
1. Avoid foods, which are high in fats, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, etc. These elements can raise the adrenal levels and can gradually lead to hair loss and baldness. You must also avoid nicotine and reduce the intake of common salt.
2. Consider taking biotin, which is a member of the vitamin B family. If you have a biotin deficiency, your hair may become brittle and fall out. Ask your physician for her recommendation regarding biotin supplements.
3. Foods rich in silica, iron and calcium help reduce hair loss or prevent its occurrence. Eat lots of green leafy vegetables and whole grain cereals. Eggs are also rich in iron, and so do liver and organ meat. A diet rich in protein will also help stimulate the growth of hair since hair is composed of the protein keratin. In one European study, it is found that soy protein increases the stimulation of hair growth by up to 15%. Silica on the other hand, has been studied by the Soviet Union, and they found that it is effective in stopping hair loss. They now add it to shampoo so that hair loss can be prevented and stopped. In foods, it is mostly found in potatoes, green peppers, red peppers, bean sprouts and cucumbers.
4. You can also mix amla juice and lime juice. These two juices, when put together, nourish and replenish the hair follicles and facilitate hair growth. You do not need to boil or cook this mixture. All you need to do is to extract the juices from their respective sources and apply them on your hair along with the shampoo that you use.
5. If the condition is caused by any underlying medical condition, you must consult a doctor and treat the condition to prevent baldness. Intake of some medicines may also cause baldness and in such cases, you can approach your doctor for changing them, if possible.
6. When you dry your wet hair, blow your hair in the opposite direction from how it normally grows, and then brush it back into the normal direction. This will make your hair appear to have more volume.
7. Apart from diet, you can use essential oils as home hair remedies to stimulate the growth of hair. Add two drops of lavender, jojoba, lemon, rosemary, bay, cedar wood, chamomile, or grapefruit oil in your running water. You can also combine it with vegetable oil and massage it to your scalp. It is best to wrap your scalp with plastic and place a warm towel around it. Leave it overnight for best results, then shampoo your hair the next day using mild shampoo that is preferably fragrance-free. These essential oils have been studied by dermatologists in Scotland and found them to be effective in patients who experience hair loss due to autoimmune disorders. Just avoid rosemary oil if you have hypertension and keep lemon and grapefruit at low doses if your skin is sensitive.
8. You can also make use of coconut milk to promote hair growth. Just apply the milk on your scalp and tie a towel or some cloth around your hair to prevent loss of the milk from your hair. After keeping it for about half an hour, you should rinse off the coconut oil from your hair with water and shampoo.
